Children’s Sunday School – 9:00am  & 10:30am– Held each Sunday morning following “Small Talk” during the Contemporary service, the children are dismissed from the worship service to their age appropriate class. Parents are asked to pickup a child release slip in the pew and send it with their child to small talk (the children will then bring it with them to their class). This will allow the teachers to know who the child can be released to at the end of class.

Children ages 4 through grade 5 are welcome to join us in Sunday School!

Nursery Care is available for all children under the age of 4.

Youth Sunday School – 10:30am – Held each Sunday morning during the traditional service, the youth in grades 6-12 meet in the Youth Room and build their faith and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Youth use various curriculums for study but all are based on the Word of God!

Vacation Bible Schools – Four times per year, (Christmas, Easter and during Summer vacation) we hold VBS for the children of our congregation and Marco Island! VBS is free and all children age 4 through grad 5 are welcome to attend VBS!

Adult Sunday School at 9:00 am Aldersgate Class – Adult Bible Study is held on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am. We will study the entire Bible, book by book, verse by verse, beginning with Genesis and rotating through the Old and New Testament. The curriculum used is “Genesis through Revelation” distributed by Cokesbury. Adults are welcome to join the class at any time, even if you are visiting just for a short time!

Adult Sunday School at 10:30 am – Adult Bible Study is also held on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. In this Bible Study group the leadership is shared. This is available for those who attend the 9:00 am Contemporary Service. Adults are welcome to join the class at any time, even if you are visiting for a short time.

Position available at Wesley United Methodist Church:  

Audio and Visual Technician:

Position Summary:  Responsible for oversight of all audio and visual functioning of WUMC for all church events.

Job Description:  Assure full functioning of all audio and video systems of WUMC along with personally leading and teaching volunteers to assist as needed for all services and events.

  • Assess, inspect, review and replace equipment
    • Does existing equipment provide what is needed for W.U.M.C. to optimize the A/V and lighting aspects of services and events? If not, advise what is needed along with costs and benefits.
    • Review, retire and purchase new equipment after gaining approval from Council.
  • Provide seamless A/V and lighting for all events [examples include Sunday services, weekly rehearsals, seasonal services, weddings, funerals, community events (special services typically include additional compensation)]
    • Before each service/event
      • Check and balance mikes
      • Check speakers before each service
      • Check batteries
  • Build a volunteer team to implement A/V services
    • Provide on-going volunteer training on specific equipment
    • Ensure that the highest ethical and professional standards are maintained (copyright licensing, safe workplace, etc.)
  • Continue to develop personal skills through continuing education
  • Meet with Pastor and Worship Team to design and implement worship experiences
  • Record and upload services
    • Social media (i.e. Facebook live including respond to those commenting and asking questions)
    • Website
  • Design and put together a “traveling worship” rig for doing services at the beach, at restaurants, etc.

Qualifications:  Compatible with Wesley’s vision and values / strong personal faith, successful work experience initiating, establishing and maintaining A/V systems in a similar environment including sound and video production, excellent people skills (positive, pleasant and a sense of humor), is good at and enjoys being part of a team, organized yet flexible to meet changing needs, successful experience in recruiting, training, scheduling and, if needed, dismissing volunteers with grace, open to trying new ideas and ways of working, experience surfacing and bringing forward creative ideas and opportunities, experience working maturely through difficult situations, familiarity and experience with lighting systems, ability to lift/move up to 90 pounds.

Education:  College degree, and/or successful work experience initiating, establishing and maintaining top-notch A/V and lighting services in a similar environment to W.U.M.C.

Hours:   Approximately 20 hours per week (time-sheet to be submitted and hours over 20 must be approved)

Pay Range: Initial pay range = $18-$22 / hour depending on qualifications.

SPANISH NUGGETS – Anne Troemner will be teaching a class to learn about the Spanish language and culture. It is Spanish made easy, and begins on Monday, January 14th for six-weeks at 5:00 pm in the Hensel Room.  If you’re interested, please plan to attend.  The last class will be Monday, February 18th.

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL AND CRAFTS SHOW – Thursday, February 14 and Friday, February 15, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm featuring: homemade strawberry pie (but the whole pie or just a piece – to eat or to go); homemade strawberry shortcake (to eat or go), homemade strawberry sundaes and ice cream. This is our 9th annual Festival and we hope to see you there!

THE GENERAL CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH – This will be held February 23 through February 26, 2019 in St. Louis, MO. The primary purpose for the meeting is to make a decision on our denomination’s stand on LGBTQ inclusion in the life of the church.  Copies of the resolutions are available in the back of the church. On Sunday, February 17th at 11:45 AM we will have a brief meeting to share more information, including the “Sugar Packets Video” by Tom Berlin. WESLEY HOCKEY NIGHT – March 1, 2019 the Florida Everblades vs Orlando Solar Bears at 7:30 pm. For the cost of $23.00, you will get a “premium” seat and a newly designed Everblades T-Shirt (sizes S, M. L, XL). Check the bulletin inserts for the sign up.

RUMMAGE SALE – It’s back again! Don’t miss Wesley’s Rummage Sale on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon.  We look forward to receiving your donations; but due to lack of storage space, we would appreciate it if you could hold large items until March 7.  If you can’t keep them that long, then please call Marsha (389-6713) or Connie (642-8587); and we will try to find space for them early.  If you have some small items that you cannot hold until March 7, then we can accept small items and boxes now, so you can bring them to the church office during office hours.  Set-up begins Thursday, March 7, at 1:30 PM through 3 PM and will continue on Friday, March 8, from 9 AM – 3 PM; the actual sale is from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 9.  We need volunteers to help on each of these days.  Anyone is welcome to come and help. There is no need to sign up in advance… just show up and we’ll put you to work! Donations will be accepted at Wesley’s Fellowship Hall on the following dates/times:  March 7 from 1:30 PM  – 3:00 PM, and March 8 from 9:00 AM  – 3:00 PM.  Please remember that we take almost anything except clothes, shoes, large gym equipment, TVs (other than new type thin flat screens), and large appliances.  Although we do not accept clothing, we will accept accessories (scarfs, belts, handbags, jewelry, etc.)  You can help us in the following ways:  (1) Please mark March 7-9 on your calendar now, so you will be able to help with set up;  (2) Wear a “red shirt” on March 9, if you plan to help us on sale day; (3) Donate your unwanted treasures for our sale and ask your friends to also donate items; (4) Come and shop on March 9 and also encourage your friends to come and shop; and (5) Call Marsha or Connie if you can help us with storage space for donations or if you have any other questions related to this sale.

DINING IN; POT LUCK DINNER – Friday, March 15th at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall, come join us for a night of fun and getting to know one another better.  What’s to Eat:  Bring a Side Dish to Share (Vegetable, Salad, or Dessert).  The Aldersgate Sunday School Class will be bringing a number of different main dishes and will provide drinks.  What’s the Entertainment: We will play a Get-to-know Rev. Bill & Kim “Trivia Game”where we will ask questions of the group attending and see how many can guess “what” Rev. Bill & Kim would do in various situations.   In addition to the Trivia Game, we will also have some musical entertainment provided by members of our choir; and we will end the evening with a brief sing-along.  Everyone is encouraged to attend and we hope to see many of you at this evening of good Food, Fellowship, and FUN!
