Job Posting

Two Positions available at Wesley United Methodist Church:  

Christian Education Director:

Position Summary:  Guide and support Christian education at Wesley and the Marco community to encourage and enable individuals to grow in their faith and knowledge of Christianity.

Job Description:  Plan, organize, equip, direct, train and cast the vision for the Wesley congregation in levels of Christian education.  Expand Wesley’s Christian education to the greater Marco community with the intent for this to be an opportunity for discipleship.  This is inclusive of all ages and levels of education including, small groups, Bible studies, children’s education, seasonal  studies and guest teachers/lecturers.

  • Assess (continuously) current practices at Wesley and engage in opportunities for improvement by partnering with volunteer and paid leaders/teachers.
  • Assess (continuously) best practices in other Churches and introduce them to Wesley.
  • Engage with counterparts in other Churches to collaborate on best practices and ways to effectively improve.
  • Cast a vision and detailed, pragmatic plan for what Christian education should and can be at Wesley for all ages and maturity levels along with a detailed plan to achieve the vision and any financial support that may be needed. Gain “buy in” from the leadership and congregants at Wesley.
  • Implement the agreed plan.
  • Celebrate success,
  • Communicate upcoming and past education opportunities in all communication vehicles (website, social media, newsletter, bulletin, PPT, radio, newspaper, etc.) Use the communication channels as a vehicle to attract people to learning opportunities and to Wesley in general.
  • Refresh plans as needed.

Qualifications:  Compatible with Wesley’s vision and values / strong personal faith, successful work experience initiating, establishing and maintaining Christian education in a similar environment, solid electronic literacy, detailed in habits, excellent people skills (positive, pleasant and a sense of humor), is good at and enjoys being part of a team, organized yet flexible to meet changing needs, keeps confidential matters, confidential, self-managing, open to trying new ideas and ways of working, experience surfacing and bringing forward creative ideas and opportunities, experience working maturely through difficult situations.

Education:  College degree, and/or successful work experience initiating, establishing and maintaining Christian education in a similar environment.

Hours:  Full time

Initial Pay Rate: $45,000 – $50,000 per year

Reports to Senior Pastor

Audio and Visual Technician:

Position Summary:  Responsible for oversight of all audio and visual functioning of WUMC for all church events.

Job Description:  Assure full functioning of all audio and video systems of WUMC along with personally leading and teaching volunteers to assist as needed for all services and events.

  • Assess, inspect, review and replace equipment
    • Does existing equipment provide what is needed for W.U.M.C. to optimize the A/V and lighting aspects of services and events? If not, advise what is needed along with costs and benefits.
    • Review, retire and purchase new equipment after gaining approval from Council.
  • Provide seamless A/V and lighting for all events [examples include Sunday services, weekly rehearsals, seasonal services, weddings, funerals, community events (special services typically include additional compensation)]
    • Before each service/event
      • Check and balance mikes
      • Check speakers before each service
      • Check batteries
  • Build a volunteer team to implement A/V services
    • Provide on-going volunteer training on specific equipment
    • Ensure that the highest ethical and professional standards are maintained (copyright licensing, safe workplace, etc.)
  • Continue to develop personal skills through continuing education
  • Meet with Pastor and Worship Team to design and implement worship experiences
  • Record and upload services
    • Social media (i.e. Facebook live including respond to those commenting and asking questions)
    • Website
  • Design and put together a “traveling worship” rig for doing services at the beach, at restaurants, etc.

Qualifications:  Compatible with Wesley’s vision and values / strong personal faith, successful work experience initiating, establishing and maintaining A/V systems in a similar environment including sound and video production, excellent people skills (positive, pleasant and a sense of humor), is good at and enjoys being part of a team, organized yet flexible to meet changing needs, successful experience in recruiting, training, scheduling and, if needed, dismissing volunteers with grace, open to trying new ideas and ways of working, experience surfacing and bringing forward creative ideas and opportunities, experience working maturely through difficult situations, familiarity and experience with lighting systems, ability to lift/move up to 90 pounds.

Education:  College degree, and/or successful work experience initiating, establishing and maintaining top-notch A/V and lighting services in a similar environment to W.U.M.C.

Hours:   Approximately 20 hours per week (time-sheet to be submitted and hours over 20 must be approved)

Pay Range: Initial pay range = $18-$22 / hour depending on qualifications.

COFFEE FELLOWSHIP – Sunday’s 10:00 am Coffee Fellowship in the Fellowship Hall will begin again Sunday, September 2, 2018. We hope to see everyone there between services.

WESLEY CHRISTMAS AT EAGLE CREEK – Thursday, December 13th at 6:00 pm; $26.00 per person.  Reservations, Entrée selection, and payment required by Monday, December 10th. Checks made payable to Jim McDonald may be placed in the offering plate or dropped off at the Church office, and/or call Sandra McDonald at (239)259-0591.  Included is the following:  Italian Garden Vegetable Soup and Salad Bar of Artisan Greens, Dried Cranberries, Olives, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Crumbled Feta with Choice of Dressings: Ranch, Balsamic, Honey Mustard, Blue Cheese.  Choice of: Sautéed Haddock with Mandarin Orange Vinaigrette, Vegetable Pilaf; or Sautéed Chicken topped with Mushrooms Capers Lemon Butter Sauce, Vegetable Pilaf; or Roasted Pork Loin with Caramelized Onions Cabernet Peppercorn Sauce, Herb Roasted Yukon Gold Potato. All Entrees Served with Green Beans and Carrots; Includes non-alcoholic beverages, tax, gratuity.  Enjoy dessert at Ellen Bourne and Bill Adkisson’s home after dinner and Christmas music with Vance Neal.

PLEASE BE AN ANGEL – Once again this year we hope to share the joy of Christmas with the children at Manatee Elementary School.  Please purchase a gift/s with a suggested value of no more than $30 each.  Your gift can be for a boy or girl between 3-11 years old.   Place your UNWRAPPED gifts in the back of the sanctuary.  We will deliver the gifts to Manatee so that the parents can “shop” for gifts for their children. This allows the parents to share the joy of Christmas giving with their families.  All gifts must be delivered to Wesley by Sunday, December 16th.

JOURNEY TO THE MANGER – On December 16th we will celebrate JOURNEY TO THE MANGER.  This is Wesley’s way of giving the “true gift of Christmas” to the missions of Wesley. This year your monetary gifts will go to UMCOR. The Methodist Church in Ormond Beach has offered a $500,000 matching fund to benefit Florida residents affected by Hurricane Michael. Whatever is received by Florida United Methodist Churches by December 31, 2018 will be matched.  You will find special envelopes in the pews on December 16th.  Please DO NOT put these envelopes in the offering plates.  At the end of the service you will be able to take your gift to the manger on the altar.

CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICES – Monday evening, December 24th at 5:30 pm is our Contemporary Candlelight Service; 7:00 pm is the Traditional Candlelight Service; and 11:30 pm is our Candlelight Communion Service. We hope you will join us at one of these services.
